IMM SUPA Expo
21st - 22nd January 2025
16:00 - 22:00 @ Artificial Beach, Male’, Maldives.
We are excited to announce the Israafu Madhu Misraab: Single Use Plastics Alternatives Expo!
This expo is organized by SIGS in collaboration with Soneva Namoona to increase awareness on alternatives to Single Use Plastics (SUPS) in Maldives and engage the community to lead a SUP-free lifestyle.
The introduction of SUPs has increased the threat on our coral reefs and ocean life. To combat this, various government and non-government organizations have been conducting numerous environmental awareness and education campaigns throughout the country over the past 3 decades to develop more sustainable behaviors among the community. Both Soneva Namoona and SIGS, in their respective work, have been addressing this issue in the Maldives.
The Israafu Madhu Misraab: Single Use Plastics Alternatives Expo is organized under the REmoving PLAstics from our Coastal Environment (REPLACE) Project, an initiative by SIGS to reduce ocean plastics in Maldives. This project is funded through the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia (PLEASE Project) which is implemented by South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) with the support of United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), with the support of the World Bank.
SIGS is partnering with Soneva Namoona to synergise impacts of the individual efforts by jointly organizing the expo event focusing on SUP alternatives and alternative lifestyles to support the wider Israafu Madhu Misraabu campaign.
